The occasion of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s visit was part of the golden jubilee celebrations, which marked 50 years of Her Majesty’s reign. For photographs of their visits in 1951, 1959, and 1983, please visit the “Royal Visits to the UBC Campus” page compiled by UBC Archives.

On March 10th 2005, UBC President Martha Piper introduced Trek 2010 at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. Trek 2010 was a strategic planning document that collected input from a variety of internal and external communities, culminating in long-term goals for the University’s next decade. Trek 2010, the University’s mission statement, was established on five pillars: people, learning, research, community, and internationalization.
